The JAXA investigation ExHAM-Radiation Shielding studied the effect of cosmic radiation on the mechanical and chemical properties of high-tech polymer materials with the goal of examing their potential for future space exploration applications.
The first space-grade polymer composite samples of Turkey at the JAXA Japanese Experiment Module (KIBO) in the International Space Station (ISS) exposed to the open space environment were returned from Low Earth Orbit (LEO)... The first space-grade polymer composite samples of Turkey produced by our Master and PhD students in Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey that has been attached to the Exposed Experiment Handrail Attachment Mechanism (ExHAM) for exposure in the space environment was returned to Earth at the end of May 2019, and then later handed over to researchers by JAXA Tsukuba Space Center (TKSC) on June 2019.
